OUR HISTORY Coming to the Pines on Fire Island and leaving the rest of the world "behind" is a strong sentiment of our visitors here. Once you get on the Ferry in Sayville and head across the Great South Bay, you seem to enter another world where the hustle and bustle of New York City is traded for the wooden boardwalks, rolling sand dunes, grazing deer, and a remarkably friendly inclusive world with no cars, traffic, or rudeness. |
Our Pines community on Fire Island is a "gay" destination known all over the world. It has had residents including Calvin Klein, David Geffen, Tommy Tune, Perry Ellis, Henry Fonda, Truman Capote (who wrote Breakfast at Tiffiny's here), and many more. It has a rich history for the gay, lesbian, and designer communities, and the dreamers who are on their way. The roots of disco, line dancing and "house party music" got their start here.
